Three tiny little islands south of Massa Lubrense situated in the waters of the Bay of Salerno, a short distance from the coast. On the biggest, amongst the green of the Mediterranean, there is a very well-restructured preSaracen tower and some ruins dating back to the Roman age.
They are insidious rocks, feared by sailors of all time, and, as the legend relates, where the Mythical Mermaids, half woman and half fish, lived. No sailor was able to resist the fatal attraction of their song, causing them to be shipwrecked on the rocks. The mythical sailor Ulysses was able to resist their song by tying himself to the mast of his ship and making his crew plug their ears.
There are those, even today, who claim to notice darting shadows among the blue – green of the sea and hear a strange song as the waves beat along the coast.
